###  Gonzalez Dissertation Defended, Beginning Postdoc

 [Aurore Gonzalez](/people/aurore-gonzalez) successfully defended her thesis “Polar questions and interrogative particles - a crosslinguistic investigation” on Friday, January 8. Congratulations, Aurore! She will begin a postdoc position next month at the University of Milan as part of the [LeibnizDream project.](https://leibnizdream.eu)

###  Harvard at LSA 2021, Bryant Receives Student Abstract Award

 The following members of our department presented at the [95th Annual Meeting of the Linguistic Society of America](https://www.linguisticsociety.org/event/lsa-2021-annual-meeting) (LSA 2021). The LSA was hosted on January 7-10, 2021 and was held virtually.

- [Ian Kirby](/people/ian-kirby), "Exhaustification, free-choice, and additivity: Evidence from Sakha *da(γanɨ)*" (talk)
- [Josh Martin](/people/joshua-martin), "D-linking and the semantics of wh-in-situ" (poster)

 For her abstract, Shannon received second place in the [Student Abstract Award](https://www.linguisticsociety.org/news/2020/12/14/lsa-announces-awards). This is given to the top abstracts submitted to the conference by students. Congratulations, Shannon!

###  Satik at BCGL 13

 [Deniz Satik](/people/deniz-satik) gave a lightning talk titled "Exfoliating the implicational universal in complementation" at the [13th Brussels Conference on Generative Linguistics](https://www.crissp.be/bcgl-13-the-syntax-and-semantics-of-clausal-complementation/) (BCGL 13), held virtually on December 16-18, 2020.
