Resources

Harvard University offers a tremendous wealth of academic and intellectual resources for students and scholars in the department, chief among them being access to the extensive physical and digital collections of books, journals and manuscripts available through the Harvard University library system—the largest academic and private library system in the world.

Harvard is also an exciting place for linguists interested in experimental and interdisciplinary research. Through  Kate Davidson's  M&M Linguistics Lab, students at the department can get involved in an array of ongoing experimental and field work-based research projects, or develop projects of their own.

The Linguistics  Department also has a lab dedicated to linguistic fieldwork. At the WOLF-Lab (Working On Language in the Field), led by Tanya Bondarenko, students can engage in projects involving data collection from a variety of languages across the world. The lab focuses on applying tools of formal linguistics to understudied and underdocumented languages, as well as typological work and documentation.

The Phonetics and Phonology Lab (PhonLab), directed by Katie Franich, is dedicated to understanding the patterning of speech sounds in the world's languages. Members of the lab conduct research on speech production (articulation and acoustics) and percepton in a range of languages, and the lab has many projects based in Central and West Africa.

Other Harvard labs involved in language-related research, notably the developmental labs at the Harvard Psychology Department, and labs affiliated with the Mind, Brain, Behavior (MBB) Initiative, provide additional resources and opportunities for collaborative research.
