Whatmough Lecture Overview
The department hosts the Annual Joshua and Verona Taylor Whatmough Lecture in an area of linguistics that varies from year to year. Joshua Whatmough (1897–1964) was the founder of the Department of Linguistics at Harvard.
We are pleased to present as speaker for Whatmough Lecture XIX Diane Lillo-Martin, Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Linguistics at the University of Connecticut. Professor Lillo-Martin's main research interest involves gaining a better understanding of the human language faculty. Primarily, she examines this by studying the structure and acquisition of American Sign Language, and by looking at the process of language acquisition across different languages.
