Spring 2021 Term Dates

Welcome back!  Spring term add/drop period begins on Friday, January 22.  Classes begin on Monday, January 25.  For further important dates, see the academic calendar here.

 

Gonzalez Dissertation Defended, Beginning Postdoc

Aurore Gonzalez successfully defended her thesis “Polar questions and interrogative particles - a crosslinguistic investigation” on Friday, January 8.  Congratulations, Aurore!  She will begin a postdoc position next month at the University of Milan as part of the LeibnizDream project.

Harvard at LSA 2021, Bryant Receives Student Abstract Award

The following members of our department presented at the 95th Annual Meeting of the Linguistic Society of America (LSA 2021).  The LSA was hosted on January 7-10, 2021 and was held virtually.

  • Shannon Bryant, "Evidence from Oromo on the typology of complementation strategies" (talk)
  • Ian Kirby, "Exhaustification, free-choice, and additivity: Evidence from Sakha da(γanɨ)"  (talk)
  • Josh Martin, "D-linking and the semantics of wh-in-situ" (poster)

For her abstract, Shannon received second place in the Student Abstract Award.  This is given to the top abstracts submitted to the conference by students.  Congratulations, Shannon!

 

Satik at BCGL 13

Deniz Satik gave a lightning talk titled "Exfoliating the implicational universal in complementation" at the 13th Brussels Conference on Generative Linguistics (BCGL 13), held virtually on December 16-18, 2020.
