Open House at 1100 Mass Ave
This coming Thursday, October 3, the ASL Program and the M&M Lab will co-host an open house from 1:30-3pm at the new departmental space for Linguistics at 1100 Mass Ave. There will be pizza, cider, pumpkin painting, and general merriment, all are welcome to see the new space and learn more about both our courses and research! See you there~
Concentrator Ice Cream Party
The concentrators, the Assistant Head Tutor Natasha Thalluri and DUS Prof. Kathryn Davidson gathered at J.P. Licks on Tuesday Sept 24th to celebrate the new semester and enjoy the last days of summer in Cambridge. It was great to see such a big crowd! Hope everyone's Fall semester goes well!
Ryan at the GSAS Indo-European & Historical Linguistics Workshop
On Friday Sept 27th, our department chair Kevin Ryan gave a talk titled 'Greek grave: tone and intonation' at the GSAS Indo-European & Historical Linguistics Workshop. Faculties, students, and visitors from the Linguistics as well as the Classics department attended the wonderful talk. Thanks so much, Kevin.
Harvard at SuB (and beyond!)
Many semanticists from Harvard presented at Sinn und Bedeutung 2024 in Noto, Sicily on Sept 16-20th, including:
- faculty Gennaro Chierchia gave an invited talk on 'At the frontier of quantification: correlatives, movement and scope',
- PhD student Natasha Thalluri presented a poster on 'A return to a functional dependency approach to correlatives',
- PhD student Ankana Saha had a talk on 'Demonstratives and alternatives', who went on to present at another conference in Venice (XPrag 2024).
