Week of Sept 8
WOLF lab summer trips
Members of the WOLF lab went on two field trips over the summer. In the first two weeks of June, Tanya Bondarenko (director of WOLF lab), Ava Silva ('27), Jackson Herrera ('27), Jacob Fernandes (BA '24, now PhD at NYU), Madeleine Riskin-Kutz (BA '25, now MPhil at Oxford), Romi Hill (PhD student at BU) went to the Alabama-Coushatta reservation. They documented various aspects of the Alabama grammar (including tone, vowel quality, morphophonological processes, agreement in transitive and ditransitive verbs, argument structure), organised workshops teaching children (middle school & high school) some basics of Alabama verb agreement, and had discussion with the elders about agreeing on the orthographic system. The lab would particularly like to thank Ava Silva who made the trip possible!
Four lab members also went to Tbilisi, Georgia for three weeks in July. Kaden Holladay (lecturer), Jacob Fernandes (BA '24, now PhD at NYU), Richard Luo (BA '23, now PhD at Yale) investigated clausal embedding in Georgian, selective opacity of different kinds of movement (relativization, scrambling, wh-movement), case-matching effects in wh-dependencies, and indexical shifting.
Congrats for such a wonderful summer!
