Linguistics Colloquium Talk Series - GSAS Workshops
Harvard Linguistics Colloquium Talk Series
For several years, the GSAS workshops listed below have been collectively referred to as the Harvard Linguistics Colloquium Talk Series.
Indo-European and Historical Workshop
The Workshop in Indo-European and Historical Linguistics provides a stimulating environment for the exchange of ideas in all aspects of the historical study of language.
In recent years, students and faculty members from the Departments of Classics, Near Eastern Languages, and South Asian Studies, as well as from other Boston area linguistics programs, have been active participants in the workshop. Papers that engage with theoretical issues are no less welcome than discussions of problems in the history of specific languages and families.
Workshop Coordinator: Hrefna Svavarsdóttir and Felix Montgomery
Harvard Linguistics Circle
The Harvard Linguistics Circle is devoted to the pursuit of recent developments in theoretical linguistics. The bulk of activities take place in an informal setting to maximize the opportunity of exploring genuinely new ideas and analyses, and they include presentations by outside invited speakers as well as local graduate students. There is a strong emphasis of interdisciplinarity, both across linguistic sub-disciplines and across linguistic methodologies.
Workshop Coordinators: Xiaotian (Alice) Wang and Nayantara Das
Universals Workshop
The Universals workshop is home for theoretical research that pays close attention to natural language data, bringing together researchers who hold a variety of points of view. Our goal is to bridge the gap between descriptive work and work of a highly theoretical nature. The workshop also serves as a forum for researchers who are interested in discussing methodologies of natural language study.
Workshop Coordinators: Jacob Kodner and Jane Loney
